1 Wireshark仍然是Wireshark,开发者和拥有者(Gerald Combs)将继续历史使命;

It’s now been one week since Riverbed Technology acquired CACE Technologies and, in the same deal, took over the Wireshark trademark. I just answered a slew of questions from various writers and I’d like to address the topic directly with you.
What Will Happen to Wireshark?
Riverbed did not acquire Wireshark — they only hold the trademark rights. Wireshark is a self-contained ecosystem made up of the user community and developer community. Gerald Combs (creator of Wireshark) will retain his role over the Wireshark community. The community will continue to contribute ideas for Wireshark improvement and use. The developers will continue to alter the Wireshark code based on those ideas.
What Will Happen to Wireshark University and the Certification Program?
We do not envision any changes to our development process or the delivery of the Wireshark Certified Network Analyst Exam from the CACE/Wireshark name acquisition. Again, we listen to the Wireshark user community and follow your lead.
Will Riverbed Affect Any Changes on Wireshark?
Possibly. One visible change may be in the increased profile of Wireshark and the Sharkfest Conference in 2011. Riverbed has much greater resources than CACE Technology. These resources could be used to enhance the image of Wireshark as the defacto standard for network analysis. These resources could also be used to improve the visibility, attendance and offerings at the yearly Sharkfest Conference.
Only time will tell how this acquisition will play out. I imagine Riverbed is less interested in being intrusive on the Wireshark community and more interested in embracing Pilot and Wireshark to improve their WAN optimization and network flow analysis products.
